MOHAVE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE Wednesday, July 18, 2012
Public Information
(928) 753-0729 Lab results so far: KINGMAN – Lab results regarding recent suspicious envelopes received by Mohave County personnel show there was no exposure to biological agents or toxins.
We sent the initial six envelopes that were received by county officials and employees Monday morning to a Phoenix laboratory where they were tested for biological agents, toxins and anything dangerous, said Mohave County Bioterrorism
Defense Coordinator Bruce Leeming, of the Department of Public Health. The report came back that the results are negative for those dangers. At this stage, it is undetermined exactly what was in the envelopes.
What the lab will do now is to put the substances in lab dishes and try to grow something from them, Leeming said. If by Monday nothing is grown, that may be the end of it.
The most important issue is it is not a toxin; it is not a biological agent; it is safe. County nurses have been involved with the investigations
since Monday morning, he said. They have assessed everyone who was exposed to the suspicious mail and they have been following up on the health of those individuals.
The situation is an ongoing criminal investigation overseen by the Kingman Police Department.
